The recurrence rate of patients with esophageal cancer without lymph node metastasis was lower than that with metastasis, however, patients with lymph node negative (pNo) still had a certain recurrence rate (4.7% - 42%). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of lymph node micrometastases on the prognosis of patients with pN stage tumors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fifty patients with primary tumors and associated lymph nodes underwent surgical resection and no lymph node metastases were examined. A total of 1840 lymph nodes were obtained.
