设立“儿童读书日”给孩子朗读童话故事,在日本随处可见。日本的少儿读物不仅受到父母的重视,也受到政府和社会的普遍重视。各地图书馆都设有专用的儿童书阅览室,这里要脱鞋进入,书架比一般成人书架矮。孩子在这里就像在自己家里一样,可以拿着书席地而坐。有的图书馆还定期为孩子们举办公开朗读会。图书馆也十分重视少儿读物的补充。2001年12月,日本推出了关于儿童读书的新法律,将每年的4月23日定为“儿童读书日”。这一天,日本各地都会开展丰富多彩的推动儿童读书的宣传活动。
