The alkaline phosphatases(APs)in three cell lines(GG,MM138,293)have been characterized by inhibition,thermostability,elec-trophoretic mobility,neuraminidase treatment,molecular mass and immu-nological studies,All three cell lines contained the bone-like APs,they areheat sensitive,homoarginine,EDTA sensitive,and L-phenylalanine insensitive.Modification of electrophoretic mobility by neuraminidase digestion and lectinaffinity electrophoresis showed that all three cell line APs contain terminalsialic acid and N-acetylglycosamine residues in their carbohydrate sidechains,but they appear to contain more sialic acid and N-acetylglycosa-mine residues than bone AP.Difference abserved between three cell line APsand bone AP or within three cell line APs may be explained by differencesin post translational modifications or by mutations of the cell lines.
