宁夏自古以来就是一个多民族的杂居地,现在其两大主体民族分别为回族和汉族。这两个民族的先民在入居宁夏及此后逐渐形成两大民族共居格局的过程中,也在不同历史时期创造和营造出中国传统汉族文化与伊斯兰文化的混合型的人文环境,且这种混合人文环境与自然生态环境的相互适应是一个不断变化的动态过程。在这种进驻———适应———形成———再适应的历史进程中,逐步确立起两个民族在今天宁夏经济、政治和文化生活中的共同的主体性地位。
Since ancient times, Ningxia has become a multi-ethnic mixed-use country. Now the two main ethnic groups are Hui and Han nationality. The ancestors of these two ethnic groups also formed and built a mixed cultural environment of traditional Chinese culture and Islamic culture in different historical periods during their stay in Ningxia and the gradual formation of the two ethnic groups. The mutual adaptation of the human environment and the natural environment is a dynamic process that is constantly changing. In this historical process of stationing, adapting, forming, re-adapting, the common subjective position of the two peoples in the economic, political and cultural life of Ningxia today has been gradually established.
