1920年1月,陈独秀坐着李大钊赶的马车,悄悄离开北京前往上海,去实现自己的政治抱负。俩人约定各自在南方和北方活动,组建一个政党。陈独秀离京前,特地在北京大学图书馆借了一本英文版的《共产党宣言》,准备把它带到上海物色合适的人选把它翻译成中文。到达上海不久,陈独秀听说浙江义乌分水塘一位叫陈望道的人正在夜以继日地翻译《共产党宣言》,不过他翻译的是日文版。他大喜过望,立刻把自己带来的英文版《共产党宣言》托人带给了陈望道,供他翻译时参考。
In January 1920, Chen Duxiu sat Li Chaozhao carriage, quietly left Beijing to Shanghai, to achieve their political aspirations. The two agreed to each move south and north to form a political party. Prior to leaving Beijing, Chen Duxiu borrowed an English version of the “Communist Manifesto” from the Peking University Library and prepared to bring it to Shanghai to find the right person to translate it into Chinese. Shortly after he arrived in Shanghai, Chen Duxiu heard that a man named Chen Wangdao at Yiwu Divertor in Zhejiang Province was translating the “Communist Manifesto” day and night, although he translated the Japanese version. He overjoyed and immediately brought the English version of the “Communist Manifesto” brought by himself to Chen Wangdao for reference in his translation.
