美国是由大量移民组成的,使其少数族裔文学繁荣发展,其中黑人文学占据不可取代的地位,代表是理查德·赖特的《土生子》,赖特成功塑造了与以往黑人形象不同的主人公和其强烈的向白人抗议的意识,《土生子》也因此被称为“抗议小说”。赖特在小说中不仅运用了大量的传统的现实主义写作手法,还结合了新型的现实主义写作手法——心理描写,成功的揭露了别格悲剧的根源——美国社会制度。
