Italy has a diversified and well-established economy, but the debt burden has remained high for a long time. At present, the country’s fiscal deficit is serious. The government’s ability to reduce its deficits and its effects have yet to be seen. The downside risks to the economy and the robustness of the banking system are also under severe tests.
