This article describes several digital modulation techniques for mobile and personal communication systems. These include the π / 4 shift quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) used in the second generation of digital cellular mobile systems in North America and Japan and the Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK) used in the European GSM system.
