一九八二年十月,郑美亭送走儿子入伍的第二天,丈夫不幸遇车祸身亡。为了让儿子安心服役,她强忍着悲痛,把这件事瞒下来,独自挑起生产劳动和家务的担子。两年来,她耐心服侍常年卧床的婆婆,精心管理承包的七亩责任田,还先后拿出三千多元钱和近二千斤粮食扶助村里的困难户。今年四月,她儿子所在部队得知此事,特赠给郑美亭一块“情注人民军队心系国防事业”的匾额。
