Objective: To investigate the changes of serum potassium in patients with acute organophosphate poisoning and its clinical significance. Methods: Sixty-eight patients with acute organophosphorus poisoning within 6 hours after onset were admitted to hospital for determination of serum potassium. According to different levels of poisoning, poisoning methods and time of onset, the patients in the control group were compared. Results: All the groups were significantly hypokalemia, compared with the control group were significant (P <0.01), and severe poisoning group and moderate and mild group also had significant (P > 0.05), but there was no significant difference in the serum potassium between two different poisoning ways and different poisoning time (P> 0.05). Conclusion: Acute organophosphate poisoning can cause obvious hypokalemia, the more severe poisoning, the more obvious the hypokalemia. In the early onset should pay attention to monitoring changes in serum potassium, promptly correct hypokalemia, prevent or reduce the incidence of severe complications after poisoning.
