北京大學的一百五十萬册原始古籍,除一小部分存在幾個系裹之外,絕大部分藏在學校圖書館的地下書庫裹。地下書庫有兩層,約四千平方米,其中密布着滿載古籍的樟木書櫃。地下一層書庫南出口的過道邊,有一個不大的下沉花園,陽光可以從此透人過道的窗口。二千年以後,我每天就在過道邊的一個角落裹工作。十年晨昏之間,偶爾因伏案過久喪失了位置感,恍惚覺得是在地面之上,環繞周圍的古籍層壘如山,而自己置身於書山之谷,俱在陽光照耀之下,感覺十分
