1964年夏天,王光美同志在河北省新城县蹲点。少奇同志写了一封信让15岁的女儿平平送去,并嘱托秘书,不要给她买票,不要送她上车站,也不要通知王光美同志到车站接她,一切由她自理。秘书感到很为难,平平毕竟是个孩子,而且从没出过远门。少奇同志说:“对孩子,一是要管,二是要放。什么叫管?不好好学习,品德不好,要管;什么叫放?吃苦耐劳的事情,经风雨见世面的事情,都要放手让孩子去干。
