According to the forecast by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), by the impact of the Asian financial crisis, the world economic growth rate in 1998 will have dropped by 1.2 percentage points over the previous year to 2%. In a recently released 1998 World Trade and Development Report, the organization said that the scope and impact of the Asian financial crisis outweighed any crisis of the past 30 years and its impact continues. Developing countries are hit more by this crisis than developed countries; they are expected to have economic growth of less than 2% this year
