Due to the spread of resistant falciparum malaria and the worldwide recovery of malaria, it is urgent to establish a simple and standardized method for the in vitro determination of drug sensitivity. The authors used fluorescence spectrometry with ethidium bromide, which binds to nucleic acids in the malaria parasite, and found a good correlation between the number of pests or developmental stages and fluorescence intensity. Plasmodium falciparum strains used were FCR-3 and R-FCR-3 and cultured in vitro in a carbon dioxide incubator according to a conventional method. On a 24-well plate, each well was filtered to remove leukocytes
