When Walt Disney produced a CD-ROM based on the blockbuster animated “King of Lions,” it looked forward to seeing the great success of the movie in the sale of multimedia products. However, when thousands of children ripped the gift’s packaging and inserted the disc into the CD-ROM drive, they found the computer did nothing and they felt only disappointment. There is no doubt that Disney is similarly disappointed, though Amy Malsin, director of public relations for entertainment, declined to admit it. He said Disney will refuse to comment or acknowledge the lesson on the Lion King CD; Ann Arbor, which produced the disc, will also refuse to respond to a phone call. Disney’s silence left multimedia developers puzzled - knowing that the Lion King CD was a big failure, but did not understand why.
