In April 1938, Epstein, a U.S. Associated Press reporter, flew to Taierzhuang to conduct a field interview. The notebook he carried was 7.7cm long, 10.9cm wide and 0.9cm thick with a cover saying “TAIERHCHUANG Apr.3 -10, 1938 ”(Taierzhuang April 3, 1938 to 10) words, notebook page 17, written by General Chi Fengcheng and others signature. At the beginning of 1938, the Japanese army mobilized a large number of strategic units north and south to attack the enemy in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. In order to prevent the Japanese attack, the 600,000th PLA troops were mobilized in the Fifth Theater of the War to start the Xuzhou Battle.
