白杨枯叶蛾Bhima idiota Graeser属鳞翅目、枯叶蛾科。文献记载此虫主要为害杨树,分布于东北。在我省雁北地区也普遍发生,为害较重。晋中地区亦有发生,但数量较少。1957年雁北阳高一带曾在杨树林带上大发生,并转移到果园为害。近年来在大同地区为害果树日趋严重,已成为重要食叶害虫,初步调查为害苹果、梨、槟果、沙果、海棠、山荆子、杏、李等果树,对仁果类较为喜食。果园周围虽有杨树,但主要在果树上为害。低龄幼虫群集取食叶片,仅残留主脉,高龄虫食尽全叶残留叶柄。大发生时常将树叶吃光而群迁为害,对果树的产量、品质及树势影响甚大。
