提起丘成桐教授,也许有人记得1994年2月9日新华社从斯德哥尔摩发回的消息:瑞典皇家科学院前不久决定,把1994年克拉福德奖授予美籍华人丘成桐和英国教授西蒙·唐纳德森,以表彰他们在数学研究领域取得的成就。丘成桐获奖,是由于他成功地发展了微分几何中的非线性技巧,使得一些著名的数学难题得以解决。瑞典皇家科学院的公报说,丘成桐的研究成果,对数学及物理的许多分支,如拓扑学、解板几何、表示论、广义相对论、微分几何、偏微分方程等,都有着深远的影响。
