By examining the practical use cases of “na na”, “na na ka” and “na na” in the novels of Meiji Period and 1980, this article shows that the center’s cue “na na” has been developed from the clichés originally used only objectively to the present Auxiliary Words of Double Meaning of Objective Illustration and Subjective Evaluation. This is also the so-called grammaticalization of subjectivity. Around the center’s rhetoric, “な ん ぞ” “な ぞ” “な ん か” and “な ん て” are more or less involved in the process of development from objective illustration to subjective evaluation. However, “な ん か” plays a very special role in the process of grammaticalization.
