Abstract Using a simple analytical model equilibrium, the dependence of tokamak edge safetyfactor qedge which can be understood as qa for a limiter device or q95 for a divertor device, and theshear value are calculated and compared with the ITRE-recommended formula. This dependencerelation is useful in designing the medium and small aspect ratio tokamaks and reactors.
