翻开当年湖南省第一师范学校第八班同学花名册,其中有两个人的名字引起了我的特别注意,一个乃一代伟人毛泽东,另一个是我的同乡贺果。贺果,字佩钦,号培真,湖南邵东县槎江乡马王塘人。兄弟4人,大哥贺曼真是教育家、园艺家:二哥贺巨钦,在家务农;四弟贺绿汀,即享有世界声誉的音乐家。在第一师范,贺果与毛泽东同班,都喜爱体育运动,是一对意气相投、情同手足的好朋友。毛泽东提出“文明其精神,野蛮其体魄”的口号,对诸如登山、远行、游泳、体操、冷水浴、雨浴等各种活动,样样喜爱。贺果也是一名体育爱好者,不过,他不像毛泽东那样对运动项目全面发展,只偏爱某几项活动。为此,毛泽东曾多次耐心地启发和规劝他:不能只偏重某些活动,搞畸形发展,还应懂得运动的根本目的是为了增强体质,以便有充沛的精力去搞学习,
