Microorganisms such as bacteria can bind to a monomorphic structure on the MHC molecule or to a non-variable structure on a lymphocyte antigen receptor. This combination may lead to the survival of bacteria by inducing polyclonal non-responsiveness of lymphocytes or by activating the inhibitory regulatory responses of lymphocytes, allowing the bacteria to evade the host’s specific immune-free response.
