“雷林1号桉”是我局广大职工在毛主席革命路线指引下,坚持自力更生,艰苦奋斗的革命精神,实行群选群育,经过十多年的品比、观察、试验选育出来的一个桉树良种。它在雷州半岛多风(年10级左右台风2-3次,常风4-5级)、干旱(冬春旱季长达7个月,年蒸发量大于年降雨量)、土壤瘠薄(植被稀少,大多是浅海沉积沙土)的生境条件下,采取较好的营林措施,生长迅速,干形较通直,抗风性能较强,材性较好。它比同样条件下大面积栽培的隆缘桉、大叶桉增产木材30-50％。几年来,我局一面选育,一面用这一新品种造林2万亩,并向省内外科研、生产等50多个单位提供试验用种,多数单位反映良好,要求扩大引种栽培。
