1978年高考,在江西省名列前茅的符松幸运地考入清华大学机械工程系,并由于成绩优异经遴选而获得中国政府奖学金,于1979年赴英国留学,成为改革开放以后中国政府第一批公派出国的本科留学生之一。 1983年,符松由帝国理工学院毕业,获荣誉学士学位,并获得英国科学与工程研究委员会奖学金,投师于英国皇家学会会员、曼彻斯特大学理工学院机械工程系著名教授B. E. Launder与M. A. Leschziner教授领导的研究组直接攻读博士学位。
