Since Bowden and Tador et al. Established a famous cohesion theory based on the plastic deformation of the points of contact alone, many authors used their ideas to develop a new theory of friction in metalworking that uses plasticity theory to study rough surface deformation. Bowden and Tabor compared the simple roughness deformation to the hardness test (a flat punch pressed into a semi-infinite material indentation) and derived the following formula: μ = K / 3v≌0.19
