This article reports on the progress made by a Greek ferro-chrome alloy company in improving beneficiation process, economy and smelting of ferrochromium concentrate. After a brief description of the company’s history and related ore properties, the changes from prior re-election to the use of heavy media separation are described. At first, heavy media was used only for preselection, and later, high-grade block concentrates were produced at the same time. This concentrate can be fed directly into the furnace and can increase the smelter’s capacity. In 1989, a new three-section two-density three-stream flow sorter was introduced to replace the original static drum type of heavy media sorting system, increasing the capacity of the concentrator’s processing of raw ore by 76% and economically handling the grade Lower, harder ore. The first 18 months after the changeover process, the production situation of the dressing plant is that although the ore is more difficult to pick, the recovery rate has obviously increased. The unit consumption is reduced by over 40% and the effective utilization rate of the dressing plant is over 96%. In the first year, general prices rose about 15%, but dressing production costs dropped 18%, and the investment was repaid in less than 18 months.
