Phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) is an independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD). In mouse models, high expression of PLTP promotes the formation of atherosclerosis, while its knockdown reduces the formation of atherosclerosis. Thus it is considered that the use of drugs to inhibit the activity of PLTP is a viable new way to treat atherosclerosis. But before developing such drugs, there is a need to answer a series of questions further. This review will focus on the progress of PLTP research, specifically the relationship between PLTP and apolipoprotein B-containing lipoprotein (BLp) and PLTP with high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
