阿瑟·考比特(Arthur Kopit,1937～)是当代美国剧坛最为严肃和最具创新色彩的剧作家之一,在大约25年的创作生涯里,他的剧作虽然没有进入流行的艺术市场,也与著名的戏剧奖项无缘,但考比特勇敢而执拗地探索美国文化的历史发展,思考现代美国都市的流行病症,批评人文的堕落与家庭结构的解体,因而赢得了剧评界的尊敬。考比特较成功地运用了欧洲荒诞戏剧的手法,借鉴了其它流行艺术的表现技巧,他的戏剧实践成为当代美国先锋派的象征之一。
Arthur Kopit (1937 ~) is one of the most serious and innovative playwrights in contemporary American theater. Although his play did not enter the popular art market for about 25 years, , But also missed the famous drama awards. However, Cowbitt won courage and stubborn exploration of the historical development of American culture, thinking of the epidemic of modern American cities, criticizing the fall of humanities and the disintegration of family structure, thus winning the respect of the critics.
