姚永概是近代桐城派重要作家,也是近代教育家。《慎宜轩日记》是晚清至民国间姚永概16岁(1881年)至57岁(1922年)的日记,是其成年后一生经历的记录,也是这一时期士人生活原态的展现。记录了姚永概由独尊理学的传统士人向近代教育家的转变,可以说姚永概是晚清至民初中国近代化进程中,士人从传统思想中逐步转变,思想行为也逐步近代化的一个标本。
Yao Yong is an important modern Tongcheng school writer, but also a modern educator. The diary of “Shen Yixuan” is the diary of Yao Yong, aged 16 (1881) to 57 (1922), between the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. It is a record of his adult life experience and an expression of the living conditions of his scholars during this period. It records Yao Yong’s transformation from the traditional scholars of the veneration of science to the modern educators. It can be said that Yao Yongzhi was one of the gradual transformation of intellectuals from the traditional thinking and the gradual modernization of Chinese thought in the course of the modernization of China from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republican China specimen.
