传统雕刻艺术起源于新石器时代早期,古代先人们首先从时期的制作过程中,获得雕刻技术的训练,并孕育着雕刻艺术的才能和审美观,又从陶器的制作中获得制作人物和动物的造型功能。雕刻的种类很多,而使用的材料和工具种类也繁多且特殊。常见的如石雕、玉雕、木雕、竹雕、根雕、瓷雕、冰雕等,特殊的如食品雕刻、果蔬雕刻、花卉雕刻以及微雕等。中国传统雕刻艺术的工匠,在艺术表现的技法和手法上有独到之处。因此,传统雕刻艺术不仅凝结着技术人员的心血和精力,而且也吸引着中国以及其他国家人们的喜爱。
