钱币学家孙鼎及其手书跋文王贵忱在现代钱币学界，名不甚显而研究功力深厚、且富有收藏音，要算孙鼎（字师匡，１９０８－１９７７年）先生了。他是１９３０年毕业于上海交通大学电机科。出校后，一生致力电机制造业，在沪津创立新安电机厂，创新变速电动机等，曾名噪一时，是这一行业的专家。师匡先生年轻时，便与其舅父、著名金石家周进（季木）过从甚密，耳濡目染，受教深切，以致嗜古成癖，博通金石文字诸学。对古陶文、玺印和封泥等方面的研究尤为深入。曾辑印其舅氏《季木藏陶》一书，为学术界称重。所集古玺印不甚多而皆精，如生坑新出土的＂王之＂铜玺，论者以为奇宝，与陈斋所藏之王玺适成双壁。家藏＂陈侯午敦＂，为近世私家藏彝器中之名器，最为著称。往昔蒙周叔先生见告：孙氏旧学根底好，雅好书画，书宗二王，对有铭文之古器物尤为钟爱。抗日战争前后，有汇编封泥文字之意，搜罗这方面资料不遗余力。其时于古币不甚措意。后来转而侧重千古钱研究，所得颇多珍贵之品云。１９８１年９月，笔者曾将辑本袁克文《寒云泉简钞》书稿持呈翁赐题。题词中略及师匡先生收集古币事：＂余甥孙鼎亦好古泉，所藏甚富。生前献之中国历史博物馆，可为泉庆得所＂①。孙氏是业师戴葆庭先生好友。往承戴老为我
