The concept of civic humanism was first proposed by Hans Barron. Citizen humanism refers to a patriotic republicanism formed by Florence in the Renaissance, under the threat of external aggression and tyranny, due to the rise of classical thought. For civic humanism, the significance of classical revival and civic life is one and the same thing. However, unlike Barron, Bruni, the representative of citizen humanism, may not necessarily be a believer in Republican ideology. From the context and rhetoric analysis of Bruni’s famous speech, it can be concluded that Bruni’s speech both Did not reflect the historical reality at that time, nor did he reflect his political conviction. Citizen humanism is only a manifestation of a traditional virtue political language to him, not much different from the political discourse of the virtuous monarch.
