Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Peking Opera has achieved great accomplishments in the field of artistic innovation by implementing the policy of “letting a hundred flowers bloom together and bring forth new ideas.” However, in the past two years, it seems that there has been little progress. Peking Opera’s performance can not keep up with the development of the revolutionary situation and can not meet the demands of the people in the era of socialism. Compared with some operas, the problem is even more obvious. Many local operas have performed many modern plays and some newly edited historical plays. They have also gained a lot of successful experience in exploring new forms and new techniques for adapting to new contents, thus bringing a new look to the stage art. In Peking Opera performances, there are few repertoires of modern themes, not too many new historical plays, new attempts at artistic innovation, and sometimes some performances have more old-fashioned feelings.
