The mainstream view of Africa’s economic outlook has shifted from extremely pessimistic to highly optimistic. The U.S.-Africa summit in August 2014 highlighted the latter sentiment. This article seeks to go beyond the current fanaticism and distress mentality that inevitably emerges from doing business in Africa to make a sober assessment of the progress and prospects of Africa’s economy.
