安东·巴甫洛维奇·契诃夫(1860—1904),是19世纪末期俄国著名的批判现实主义作家,世界著名的短篇小说大师。19世纪80年代的俄国社会,正是沙皇亚历山大三世统治的最反动时期。民粹派采取个人恐怖手段,刺杀了亚历山大二世,不但没有解决任何社会问题,反而促使新上台的沙皇亚历山大三世采取更加反动的政策,新沙皇加强了宪兵警察等专政机构。整个俄罗斯领地笼罩在军警宪兵的白色恐怖之中。
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904) was a famous critical realist writer of the late 19th century in Russia and a world famous short story master. The Russian society in the 1880s was the most reactionary period of the rule of Tsar Alexander III. The Narodnik used personal terror to assassinate Alexander II. Not only did it fail to solve any social problems, but it also prompted the newly elected Tsar Alexander III to adopt a more reactionary policy. The New Tsar had strengthened the dictatorship police and other dictatorships. The entire Russian territory is shrouded in the white horror of the military and police gendarmes.
