在毛主席革命路线指引下,广东湛江地区甘蔗生产蓬勃发展,目前已成为本省一个重要的糖业新基地。甘蔗生产的大好形势,大大促进了甘蔗选育种和良种推广工作。自1954年引进台糖134后,不久即代替了原来的劣种竹蔗和爪哇2878,1958年后又相继引进了粤糖3、7号和印度997、419等良种,对进一步推动甘蔗生产起到积极作用。十多年来,特别是无产阶级文化大革命以来,湛江地区广大贫下中农、革命干部和科技人员,坚持以阶级斗争为纲,坚持党的基本路线,大搞甘蔗选育种群众
