Objective To explore the effect of electroplating factory on enrichment of chromium in surrounding crops and poultry. Methods The crops and poultry within 1.5 km around an electroplating factory in Huairou District of Beijing were sampled for two consecutive years from 2011 to 2012. The chromium content was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Results Most peanut samples detected less than the reported limit of 0.025 mg / kg. The chromium content in maize samples ranged from 0.03 to 0.43 mg / kg. The test results of cabbage and radish samples from 2011 to 2012 showed that the content of chromium was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.01), and the chromium content was higher than peanut and corn. The highest content of chromium in chicken samples was 0.09 mg / kg. Conclusion The electroplating plant had no significant effect on the peanut planted around it, but it would enrich the chromium content of the cabbage and rhizome radish cultivated in the periphery of the electroplating plant, which needs sufficient attention.
