小约翰对母亲琼斯太太说:“妈妈,新年到了,我要表演节目,到时您到学校去观看我表演好吗?”母亲听了,高兴地说道:“孩子,我非常愿意去观看你的表演,妈妈真替你高兴。”说罢,母亲在小约翰的额头轻轻地亲吻了一下。小约翰的脸颊顿时飞上两朵红晕,像天上的彩虹。小约翰7岁了,在得克萨斯州达拉斯市一所小学上三年级。他很喜欢唱歌、跳舞,每当电视上有小朋友表演节目时,他总是惟妙惟肖地跟着模仿表演起来。小约翰的表演虽然显得有些笨拙,但他学得很认真。母亲常常在一旁夸他表演得很好。小约翰常想:“如果我也能像好朋友卡尔一样,在学校新年的晚会上表演一个节目,那该多好啊!”
