当经济学界最初使用“企业家”这个术语时,并没有专指某一类企业家而言,而是泛指有创新精神、创业精神的从事企业活动的能人。按美国经济学家熊彼特的说法,企业家就是开拓者、创新者,企业家就是把科学技术发明引入经济生活之中,把经济推向前进的人。从第二次世界大战结束后这几十年各国经济增长和技术进步的历史来看,各国的政界、经济学界和企业界无不关心创新,无不把创新同企业家的努力、拼搏和开拓精神连接在一起,也无不肯定企业家在推动经济增长中的作用。
