1960年,在我国遇到暂时经济困难的日子里,一天,毛泽东主席对他的警卫说：“我不吃猪肉和鸡了。猪肉和鸡要出口换机器,我看有米饭,有青菜,有盐有油,就可以了。”一次毛主席召集中央政治局的同志开会,深夜,警卫与服务员商量：趁着开会,给中央领导同志做些包子,多放些猪肉。当他们把夜餐送上来以后,不多时,周总理就出来了,他严肃地说：“以后没有主席发话,可不要这么做了。”后来,警卫和秘书、大夫一起向毛主席说：“主席,您这样下去会把身体搞坏的,党和人民都需要您!”毛主席听后无限深情地对大家说：“全国的老百姓都是这样,我一个人吃了不舒服啊!”
