If you trace the origins of the traditional age-old customs, most of them can be attributed to two basic motivations, namely, praying for happiness and disasters. The ancients have a limited knowledge and ability to deal with external things, and they are the most realistic move to seek benefits and avoidance at a given time and to obtain psychological comfort through witchcraft and religious beliefs and various ceremonies. With the improvement of people’s mental capacity, festival customs are gradually being given more social and ethical significance. As a result, many historical figures become the festival’s protagonists, and the Dragon Boat Festival is very representative.
