Gu Hongming learned rich five cars, his knowledge had Westerners praise. In 1877, Ku obtained a master’s degree in literature from the University of Edinburgh, and later went to Germany’s Leipzig University and other famous universities to study literature and philosophy. There, Gu Hongming won thirteen doctoral degrees in philosophy, philosophy, science and psychology and spoke nine languages.
