台北故宫主要承袭宋、元、明、清宫廷之皇室收藏,及受赠、购买的文物为主,院藏文物不仅数量庞大且品类繁杂,可分为铜器、瓷器、玉器、漆器、珐琅、雕刻、文具、印拓、钱币、绘画、法书、法帖、丝绣、成扇、善本书籍、清宫档案文献、满蒙藏文文献、法器、服饰、鼻烟壶等等,典藏数量共计693507件册(至2011年12月底)。其中,在书画类部分,院藏书画计12935件(包含法帖与成扇)。
