1932年的8月6日,在意大利威尼斯,两年一度的艺术节又熙熙攘攘的开幕了。但此次与以往与有些不同,艺术节进行的同时还举办了国际电影节,此举犹如锦上添花,被人们看好,因而取得成功。可以说这是世界上第一个国际电影节——“威尼斯电影节”,它被誉为“国际电影节之父”。因为有了这良好的开端,世界各国纷纷仿效。从那时至今,七十年过去了(第二次世界大战期间被迫停办,直至战后1946年恢复),各大洲国际电影节持续不断,已成各国、各地区电影工作者、电影观众进行文化交流、友好合作的重要场合。据有关资料显示统计,世界各大洲有六十多个国家和地区举办的各种电影节已超过三百个。
