扇面书画艺术,在中国起源很早。书扇始于东晋,《晋书·王羲之传》记述:尝在蕺山见一老姥,持六角竹扇卖之。羲之书其扇,各为五字。姥初有愠色。因谓姥曰:“但言是王右军书,以求百钱邪”。姥如其言,人竞买之。关于画扇,唐人张彦远《历代名画记》中曾有东汉末年的杨修为曹操画扇、误点成蝇的记载。扇面艺术作为中国画中最独特的形制,在其中国艺术历史长河中占据着颇为特殊重要的地位,至今也是相当发展的一种书画形式,有着咫尺千里、片纸长
