南京大学第一届科学討論会自5月22日開始,於6月11日勝利閉幕。討論会分為9個分会分別舉行,共報告和討論了34篇論文。地質系陳旭教授的論文“石炭紀及二疊紀紡锤蟲的演化”詳細闡述了在石炭紀、二疊紀中紡錘蟲的形態、內部構造和它的演化。他在結語中指出:“这方面的研究对于確定地層和尋找有用矿產都具有重大意義,一般地質工作者根據紡錘蟲的演化方向,即可大致確定地層的時代”。科学院古生物研究所王钺除肯定陳旭教授这一研究工
The first scientific symposium of Nanjing University started on May 22 and ended in victory on June 11. The seminar was divided into 9 chapters respectively, a total of 34 papers were reported and discussed. The paper “Evolution of Carboniferous and Permian Spindle Worm” by Professor Chen Xu of the Department of Geology elaborates the morphology, internal structure and evolution of the spindle worm in the Carboniferous and Permian. In his conclusion, he pointed out: “The research in this area is of great significance in determining stratigraphy and finding useful minerals. According to the evolutionary direction of spindle worms, geologists generally determine the age of the strata.” Academy of Sciences Institute of Paleontology in addition to affirming Professor Chen Xu, a research worker
