Shanghai is one of the earliest cities in China that have entered the aging population and is currently the city with the highest degree of aging in the country. By the end of 2000, 2,417,600 elderly people aged over 60 in Shanghai’s urban household population had reached 24.76 million, accounting for 18.29% of the city’s census register population.
