We conducted a careful continuum study of the physiological characteristics of F_1 heterosis in hybrid rice (Annual Report 1985). Three different hybrid rice F_1 combinations, their parents and two parents (IR_ (58) and IR_ (64)) were subjected to initial development in standard nutrient solution and drought
