影片《本命年》,使用极具穿透力的写实手法,揭示出变革时代下都市生活背面的阴影地带,片中塑造了一个边缘城市青年的形象——李慧泉,通过对李慧泉不幸命运及其周围“社会关系”的描写,艺术地再现了中国在80年代末,社会思想意识比较混乱的时代状况,折射出一代青年灵魂的焦虑。该片可以称得上是中国写实电影的一个高峰,不仅留驻了一个时代生存状态的集体记忆,同时影片背后所隐藏的意识形态也印刻下一个时代复杂的精神状态。
