蔣廷黻是民國時期最重要的近代史學者,中國近代外交史由其開拓,中國近代政治史也因其“現代化叙事”發生了極大變化,深刻影響了一代學人。然而由於政治原因,蔣廷黻的學術影響在1949年之後的中國大陸悄然消失了三十多年,直至國門重開,蔣廷黻的學術漸漸被大陸學人所認知。一個學術史上的失踪者極大改變了中國近代史叙事模式、情節,最近二十年中國近代史研究的一些不一樣,很大程度上得益於蔣廷黻當年所建耩學術框架、學術方法。
Jiang Tingtao was the most important modern historian in the period of the Republic of China. The diplomatic history of modern China was exploited by it. The political history of modern China also changed greatly because of its “modern narrative.” It profoundly influenced a generation of scholars. However, due to political reasons, Jiang Tingtao’s academic influence quietly disappeared in Mainland China after 1949 for more than thirty years. Until the country was reopened, Jiang Tingtao’s scholarship was gradually recognized by mainland scholars. The missing person in an academic history has greatly changed the mode and plot of the narration in modern Chinese history. Some of the studies on Chinese modern history in the recent two decades are quite different. They have largely benefited from the academic framework and academic methods built by Jiang Tingtao in that year.
